SUSSEX BY THE SEA

SUSSEX
BY THE SEA
Sussex
was first populated by giants, well that is how the early Brittons
described them. We must assume that the early Brittons were
somewhat smaller. My part of Sussex is between two
river-estuaries, the Ouse and the Cuckmere, and centred on the town
of Seaford. South Hill finishes in a shear chalk cliffe face
known as Seaford Head. In pre-Roman times this hill would have
sloped down towards the English Channel which would have been at
least ¾ of a mile further south. In Iron-age times it was
crowned with a very large hill fort the earthworks of which are still
clearly extant today.
This
part of Sussex is my world; A world of mirky history,
mysterious folklore, mythical beasts and magnificent nature.
This domain provides much of the stimulus for my musical inventions.
The ever-changing sea and sky, the blues and greens of land and
water, the reds, yellows and greys of the fields and weather all have
their influence. Sometimes my music comes from far away places
that I have visited or ideas that have been passed down to me from
greater and wiser artists than myself, but Sussex is my home and my
greatest source of inspiration.
